San Juan, Texas is a growing town of 35,000 near the Mexican border and approximately 5 miles east of McAllen, Texas. Proudly known as “The Friendly City,” San Juan embodies a strong sense of community and dynamic economic growth. Embracing its rich, multicultural character, the city continues to cultivate a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere. Partnering with local firm ERO Architects, M2L designed the site landscape and open space for the new city hall to reflect and promote the city’s values.
The architects oriented the U-shaped building form to foster community connection and offer a clear view of the street while framing a multipurpose courtyard and gathering space. Covered outdoor patios extend the interior program, creating flexible areas that can accommodate local vendors and provide essential amenities for employees and visitors.
Throughout the project, designs seamlessly integrate indoor and outdoor environments, drawing inspiration from the community’s history, culture and landscape. Patterns and textures expressed in both the architecture and the landscape reinforce a cohesive vision that celebrates San Juan’s identity.
