Ron Meek Park is a 3.7-acre community park in the Maplewood area of Houston, a well-established, deed-restricted community just southwest of Houston’s central business centers that remains attractive for its urban access, good schools, strong community involvement, and desirable amenities like shaded parks and green spaces. Working closely with the Maplewood South/North Community Association, M2L Associates led a master planning effort and first-phase implementation plan to reimagine and update Ron Meek Park.
The first phase of the implementation plan included a new playground, site trails, landscaping and a new picnic area. The project drew on M2L’s deep tree preservation expertise to protect the park’s most valuable assets — its many significant oak trees. M2L created an expanded play area separated by an elevated, composite wood deck that provides two distinct playgrounds for children ages 2–5 and 5–12. Future phases identified in the master plan included a new 6,000-sq-ft community center, exercise stations, parking lot and pool improvements.
