Peggy Park is a quaint, 3-acre, triangular park bounded by Almeda Road, Cleburne Street and Chenevert Street, blocks away from Houston’s Museum District and the I-69/SH 288 interchange. Named for Peggy MacGregor and dedicated in 1927 as a gift from the MacGregor family, the park today is designed to promote healthy individuals and collective community lifestyles regardless of age, sex, race, culture or economic standing.
M2L designers leaned into the historic and cultural significance of the Third Ward area, commissioning local artist and educator Marsha Dorsey-Outlaw, known for her colorful, intricate designs and murals, to help tell the park’s story in detailed mosaics on the park’s central activity plaza. The park’s towering oak trees are another signature feature, contributing a beautiful and serene backdrop for the new amenities. The redevelopment unveiled in 2010 showed off new playgrounds, a basketball arena, an events plaza with an ornamental trellis, trails, new landscaping, site lighting, and new irrigation.
