Navasota City Hall with its hallmark clock tower is a centerpiece of this historic small town, a municipal complex and downtown streetscape meant to welcome and attract visitors and foster the area’s commercial development. Situated in Grimes County between Brenham, Bryan–College Station and Houston, Navasota aims to offer safe, small-town living with all the amenities of nearby city life. In addition to city administration, the 30,000-square-foot city hall houses municipal courts, the police department, public safety office and emergency operation center.
An overarching goal of the project team was to tie into Navasota’s historic charm, so the building mirrors the original 1903 architecture while including modern upgrades to facilitate safety and convenience. Improvements include an entry promenade with plaza for seasonal displays and decorative paving, streetscape, furniture and landscaping, all paying homage to the classic architectural style of the original. The surrounding streetscape and landscaping choices optimize foot traffic and sustainability, helping to ensure Navasota serves residents as well as day trippers taking advantage of the area’s natural beauty, rich Texas history and seasonal shopping attractions.
