Mayfield Park is a 4.3-acre neighborhood park in the heart of Sugar Land’s most historic neighborhood, near the original Imperial Sugar refinery site as well as the Sugar Land Heritage Museum and Visitor Center. The popular park had served the community for more than two decades, but with a smaller original footprint at approximately 1.5 acres. In 2017, thanks to an additional 2.6 acres dedicated to the city of Sugar Land by Johnson Development Corp. as a parkland development requirement, the city was able to begin work to enlarge the park and add valuable amenities.
M2L Associates first delivered a park master plan for the expanded space, using the area’s rich industrial and commercial history as the birthplace of Imperial Sugar as a central focus. With key feedback from park staff and community stakeholders guiding every step of the work, M2L completed the first phase of the renovation in 2018. Features included a half-mile looping trail, large playground with swings and interactive play, restrooms, a six-goal basketball court, pavilion with picnic tables and grills, drinking fountains, bike racks, and a parking lot.
