Navasota, Texas, a charming small town northwest of Houston, is conveniently situated between Brenham, Bryan–College Station and Houston in the middle of rich farmlands and rolling hills. The downtown city hall complex and surrounding streetscape not only service day-to-day municipal and commercial needs for residents and businesses, but also constitute a central landmark and gathering spot for day-trippers and visitors exploring the area’s many tourist sites.

An overarching challenge for the project team was to update and modernize the downtown square while tying  into Navasota’s historic charm. Improvements included an entry promenade with plaza, pavers, furniture and landscaping, all paying homage to the original architectural style while facilitating modern safety and convenience upgrades to accommodate foot traffic, parking, accessibility and wayfinding. M2L worked closely with engineers to create special sidewalk paving and streetscape designs, furniture, and ornamental pots to complement the historic downtown buildings.
